The Story of This Rug
This hand-knotted Boucharouite rug from Azilal is a striking example of Moroccan artistry in recycled form. Built using a mix of upcycled fabric strips, the rug showcases a plush, high-pile construction typical of Boucherouite work. Its dominant chevron layout — sharp, symmetrical, and layered — mirrors mountain silhouettes or waves, converging in a rhythmic ascent toward the center.
The overall aesthetic is both ordered and emotive. The alternating V-shaped bands of cream, white, black, red, green, and blue dance across a textured surface, giving the impression of motion and energy — much like oral storytelling passed down through generations.
